MPHA’s 2023 Annual Conference

2023 Virtual Annual Conference and Meeting
November 16, 2023
Beyond Buzzwords: Action for Health Equity

On November 16, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., we will gather virtually for the 2023 MPHA Annual Conference and Meeting: Beyond Buzzwords: Action for Health Equity. As the theme suggests, we will dig deeply into what it takes to move from “health equity” as a virtue signal to the hard and necessary work of disruptive action for health justice.

The morning will be filled with an engaging agenda of speakers, panels, and interaction to explore some of the most pressing public health issues facing us today – and what we can do together to address them.

We’ve put together a line-up of speakers to explore what’s behind these contradictions and how we can reframe the conversation to effect real action for disruptive change.

Keynote by Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, MD, MPH, Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Boston: Dr. Ojikutu will share lessons from the work that she and the BPHC are doing to listen to community residents and seek upstream solutions to health inequities.

“Data in Action” Panel Discussion: These experts will delve into real-life examples in which public health data is driving action for equity. Panelists include Fifi Diop, MD, MPH, Associate Commissioner for Health Equity at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health; Sarita Hudson, MTS, Senior Director of Strategy and Development at the Public Health Institute of Western Massachusetts; and Amie Shei, PhD, President & CEO at the Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts.

A Conversation with Commissioner Dr. Robert Goldstein, MD, PhD, Commissioner, MA Department of Public Health: We are thrilled to announce that Commissioner Robbie Goldstein of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will sit down with MPHA’s Deputy Director, Oami Amarasingham, to share his vision and answer questions about how MDPH is implementing health equity strategies.

At the conclusion of the conference, we will transition to the Annual Members Meeting where we will provide updates on MPHA of particular interest to our members as well as elect new Board Members and recognize those who are leaving the Board. All are invited.

Registration is now closed.

At 1pm, we will host a session for students focusing on career opportunities in policy and public health. Hear from multiple MPHA alumni, including Jamie Klufts, MPH, Lecturer in the Health Science Program, Boston University; Kristina St. Cyr, BA, Massachusetts Director at Partners in Health; and MPHA’s own Kate Forrest, MSW, who recently started her full-time position as Coalition Coordinator & Policy Analyst after being an intern at MPHA last fall.
