MPHA’s 24th Annual Spring Awards Breakfast was on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Smith Hall at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.
We were thrilled to gather this year at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Smith Hall for an inspiring morning honoring public health leadership across the Commonwealth.
We are especially grateful to the Host Committee, co-chaired by Cheryl Bartlett, MPHA’s Development Committee Co-Chair and former Lemuel Shattuck Awardee, and Harold Cox, Professor of Practice at BU School of Public Health and former Paul Revere Awardee.
We proudly honored the following 2026 awardees:
- The Paul Revere Award for Outstanding Leadership in Public Health will be presented to Jean McGuire, Emeritus Professor of the Practice, Northeastern University.
- The Augustus Hinton Award for Public Health Leadership in Medicine will be presented to Dr. Miriam Komaromy, Executive Director, Grayken Center for Addiction, Boston Medical Center.
- The Lemuel Shattuck Award for Significant Contributions to Public Health Practice will be awarded to Magnolia Contreras, Vice President of Community Health, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
- The Community Leadership Award for excellence demonstrated by outstanding initiative, impact of work, and true partnership with the community will be awarded to the Massachusetts Association of Community Health Workers.
It was a truly special morning. At a time when our communities face significant challenges, gathering together reminded us of the power we can build and the impact we can have when we work collectively to advance health, equity, and justice.
Throughout the event, the passion, resilience, and commitment in the room were undeniable. From longtime public health advocates to emerging young leaders, the collective spirit of the morning reflected a movement that is vibrant, determined, and growing stronger every day.
