Michael Curry, Esq., CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, received the MPHA’s Paul Revere Award for his unwavering leadership and commitment to reducing health inequities in our Commonwealth. Special guest Leon W. Russell, Chairman of the NAACP Board of Directors, presented the award to Mr. Curry.
Martha Velez, Director of Human Services for the City of Lawrence, MA, received MPHA’s Community Leadership Award for her inspirational and outstanding service to residents of Lawrence and surrounding communities, both during the COVID-19 epidemic and following the Columbia Gas explosions in 2018. Special guest Kendrys Vasquez, Mayor of Lawrence, presented the award to Ms. Velez.
MPHA paid tribute to all local public health professionals across the state for their tireless work and great personal sacrifices throughout the pandemic to keep our communities safe. State Senator Joanne Comerford and State Representative Hannah Kane presented a joint resolution “honoring the local public health workforce for its working during the COVID-19 pandemic. MPHA unveiled “A Tribute to Local Public Health,” a 5-minute video and announced a new award to be specifically for this essential profession in Massachusetts.
