Dr. Nate Horwitz-Willis, DrPH, MPH, MPA, Alfred Frechette Awardee

Dr. Nate Horwitz-Willis received a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences before assuming the position of Director of the Department of Public Health in Plymouth, MA in August of 2017. He also serves as the public health officer for the Air National Guard at Joint Base Cape Cod/ Otis. 


Since arriving in Plymouth, he has completely updated and improved the Department website, developed a number of educational materials, recorded several public service announcements for the local PACTV station (including one about controlling Fats, Oils and Grease), successfully led the installation of safe needle disposal equipment at the local fire station, redirected both his Department and the Board of Health to become more proactive, set up an online survey to solicit suggestions from Plymouth residents for future public health strategic goals, established a reliable computer-based record keeping system, created a very helpful & collegial relationship with the Plymouth Department of Marine and Environmental Services, and is a well-known and highly respected public health official. 

Nate recently devoted enormous time and effort towards developing a new Fats, Oils, and Greases Manual and Guidelines for food service establishments and has provided thoughtful oversight to address a troubling algae bloom at a local pond and brook that was creating a potential health hazard requiring immediate action and long-term remediation.
