ACTION ALERT! SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MASSACHUSETTS FOOD TRUST

Please contact your state Senator today to ask them to co-sponsor Senator Donoghue’s Amendment #593 to fund implementation of the MA Food Trust.

On Tuesday, the Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means Committee released their proposal for the FY18 state budget without funding for an important program that addresses access to healthy food: the Massachusetts Food Trust.  Senator Donoghue has filed an amendment (#593) to the budget which would dedicate $100,000 for the operating costs of the Massachusetts Food Trust.

Last week, the Governor included in his Capital Investment plan $1 million for  the Massachusetts Food Trust. These are capital dollars which will be dispersed this year in the form of loans and grants to new and expanding healthy food retailers and local food enterprises.

To make this program a reality, and to leverage the $1 million in capital seed funding—it is essential to secure the necessary funds to operate and administer the Massachusetts Food Trust. Read on for how you can help.

Please take a few minutes this week to do three things:

  1. Contact Your Senator. Email or call your Senator (or all the Senators who represent the region that you serve) and ask them to co-sponsor Senator Donoghue’s Amendment #593 for the Massachusetts Food Trust.
