Title: Manager of Strategic Climate and Environmental Health Initiatives

Summary of Position
Have you been seeking a senior leadership role where you can provide critical direction, coordination, strategic planning, and policy support to improve environmental health across the Commonwealth? We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and collaborative professional to join the Bureau of Climate and Environmental Health (BCEH) at the Department of Public Health(DPH).
Reporting to the Bureau Director, the Manager of Strategic Climate and Environmental Health Initiatives (Strategies Manager) will provide managerial leadership to ensure that climate and environmental justice strategies and policies are integrated across Bureau program activities and incorporated into an effective communications plan. This individual will provide extensive management and policy expertise to improve coordination, leverage resources, and increase efficiency for activities crossing multiple internal and external programs/offices/agencies through a racial equity lens. The Strategies Manager establishes strong connections and meaningful relationships with internal and external partners, including senior BCEH staff, senior DPH management, a diverse staff across DPH, local public health, and others. This role elevates urgent, sensitive, or unanticipated problems to Bureau leadership, advises on policy recommendations and strategic planning, assists with communications strategies, and provides leadership to staff for strategy, policy, and health communication activities to further this important work.
The BCEH works to protect communities, especially the most vulnerable, from the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards, which result in significant health disparities. Preferred Qualifications
- At least 5 years’ experience in business management, public administration or a related field; at least one of which in a managerial role.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and inspiring a diverse staff and creating and supporting an inclusive workplace.
- Prior experience in state government working on cross-agency initiatives.
- Expertise and experience in strategic planning, program/policy development and working strategically within government entities and across agencies.
- Ability to apply and embed a health and racial equity lens to project development and implementation.
- Able to work across agency boundaries confidently and effectively and utilize persuasion, negotiation, and other dimensions of influence to set direction, gain commitments, build trust, and motivate and coordinate others outside the direct chain of command.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
