Title: Senior Staff Assistant

Summary of Position
The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of Senior Staff Assistant for the Health and Human Services Department (HHS). Under the direction of the Commissioner, the Senior Staff Assistant provides advanced administrative support in a professional capacity and is responsible for overseeing staff, projects, and programs for HHS. Responsibilities include supporting HHS staff to trouble-shoot challenges, ensuring project efficiency, and guaranteeing alignment with HHS’s mission as a department. The Senior Staff Assistant provides direct administrative support to the Commissioner of HHS and participates in managing the grants application process for the department and special projects.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction strategies, health equity, and community engagement
- Working knowledge of municipal budgeting and standard operating practices
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent research and data processing skills and ability to prepare clear and concise reports
- Ability to read and interpret Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances
- Ability to interact effectively with displeased members of the public, local officials, and other department personnel
- Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions
- Ability to think critically and problem solve
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations, organizations, and interests
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to conduct research, prepare grant applications, and to prepare detailed, accurate reports
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and complete assignments in a detailed, timely and organized manner
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or related field OR;
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements
- Experience including managing projects and grant support
- Prior experience conducting research and data analysis
- Prior experience in community engagement and/or coalition building
- Demonstrated experience in working with diverse communities
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Public Health, or related field
- One (1) year experience including managing projects and grant support.
- One (1) year experience conducting research and data analysis
- One (1) year experience in community engagement and/or coalition building
- One (1) year of experience with policy or strategic plan development expertise in Health Equity and/or Anti-Racist frameworks
- One (1) year of experience researching policy
- One (1) of experience creating presentation materials, preferably utilizing PowerPoint
Salary Range: $63,344 – $82,880 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
