Summary of Position

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and dedicated professional to join the Performance Standards and Data Systems within the Office of Local and Regional Health (OLRH). The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, adept at managing competing priorities, and be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office applications. The Assistant Director of Data Systems for the Office of Local and Regional Health (OLRH) is responsible for assisting the Director of Performance Standards and Data Systems in the development, implementation, and ongoing support of an integrated data collection system for local public health (LPH). All initiatives align with the OLRH long-term plan focusing on implementing the Special Commission Blueprint for Public Health Excellence’s six interlocking recommendations.

Reporting to the Director of Performance Standards and Data Systems and serving as a member of the OLRH management team, the Assistant Director of Data Systems will manage the business needs of the local public health data system as it relates to system procurement, vendor oversight, system development, integration across DPH, change management, training, and support for local public health. This position will work closely with IT as they support our office in the development of this system.  This position will also oversee the management of the data system once fully developed and deployed.

The Data System will be the first of its kind, bidirectional flow of public health data originating from national, state, and local sources and will align with the Data Modernization Initiative and provide the State with a wealth of information previously unavailable from LPH, allowing provide the State with a wealth of information previously unavailable from LPH, allowing. Our ideal candidate has:

  • A passion for ensuring the creation and maintenance of statewide Data Systems are grounded in equity, and support dismantling structural racism;
  • At least 5 years of experience in experience in business or public health administration, and management; and
  • A deep understanding of the business needs of development of a data or data aggregation system.
