Title: Regional Environmental Health Coordinator

Summary of Position
The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of Regional Environmental Health Coordinator for the Public Health Department. This position works independently throughout the three (3) towns that comprise the Central MA Regional Public Health Alliance conducting routine food inspections, public and semi-public pool inspections, beach inspections, body art and tanning inspections, camp inspections, and title 5 work. This position will follow up on housing and nuisance complaints and attend Board of Health meetings. The Regional Environmental Health Coordinator must have thorough knowledge of Massachusetts general laws, rules and regulations pertaining to public health and general sanitation. This position includes occasional night and weekend work as well as the ability to respond to emergencies after hours.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and experience using various computer software including Microsoft office suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws pertaining to environmental health and public health sanitation
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to read and explain policies, procedures, and other written materials to communicate effectively to a broad audience in a variety of settings
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to create and manage own inspection schedule
- Ability to conduct inspections and prepare written reports
- Ability to work in multiple work environments
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse multicultural community, organizations, and staff
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental health, public health, or related field OR;
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Attain Registered Sanitarian license within 1 year of appointment
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working at a local public health level, local municipality, and/or nonprofit Health agency
- Registered Sanitarian
- Valid food protection manager certification, certified pool operator, licensed lead determiner, Title 5 certified soil evaluator, and/or certified system inspector
- Two (2) years of customer service experience
Salary Range: $65,578 – $85,906 annually, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
