About the Organization

The Health Equity Partnership (CHNA9) is a broad coalition of residents, health and human service organizations, education institutions, private businesses, foundations, governmental bodies, and community groups working to promote health equity in the communities of North Central Mass. CHNA 9 holds the regional Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). This plan aims to address identified community health priority areas through policy advocacy, systems change and development, and community engagement and empowerment.

Summary of Position

The Programs Director will be responsible for providing support to community groups to build and sustain initiatives that advance CHIP goals. This includes conducting outreach in North Central Mass communities to increase community awareness and engagement as well as establishing relationships with community-based organizations to promote collaboration and identify potential resources. The Programs Director will work with the Executive Director to implement public advocacy campaigns to mobilize members and supporters and will work to build and maintain coalitions with grassroots groups and advocacy organizations. This is a full time, exempt position requiring significant experience in community engagement, preferably in North Central Mass, and a deep understanding of equity at the individual, institutional, and structural levels. Salary range is $60,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience.

Job Duties

  • Develops, organizes, and implements public education and organizing events, such as community forums, lobby visits, public hearings, panel discussions, and trainings. Ensures programs meet needs of community and goals and objectives of the CHNA, within established budgets.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers and/or part time staff to assist within the realm of the CHNA’s mission.
  • Makes presentations to community, business, and media leaders on the CHNA’s priorities.
  • Works with the Executive Director to develop and coordinate special events to inform, advocate, or engage a variety of audiences. Plans budgets, locates and secures facilities, food, entertainment, equipment, and sponsorships for such events. Plans and organizes registrations. Attends events to coordinate activities, ensure smooth operations, and resolve problems that may arise. Oversees marketing and promotions for such events. Conducts follow-up and evaluation after the event as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and/or supports and attends meetings of community groups whose purposes align with the CHNA’s priorities. Helps to connect the work of local community groups with other local initiatives and/or regional efforts to increase collaboration and reduce duplication/silos.
  • Ensures program activities comply with contracts and oversees grant-funded program evaluation.
  • Participates as a member of the senior management team in the development and implementation of policies and programs that contribute to the CHNA’s overall success.
  • Attends CHNA9 Board and CHIP meetings, takes and distributes minutes, prepares Board packets, maintains databases, and performs a variety of skilled administrative and clerical duties including collecting and distributing information via the weekly newsletter, updating content on the website, and corresponding with a variety of community members.

Competencies and Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess and apply the skills and knowledge to successfully plan and implement a Community Health Improvement Plan. Familiarity with Community Health Network Areas is preferred. Professional and lived experience of the equity needs of North Central Mass and the various community groups, agencies, institutions, and the history and relationships among them is essential, as is the ability to cultivate trust and authentic relationships with historically marginalized residents and community groups. Candidate must have a demonstrated respect for diversity and ability to build bridges, maintain a friendly, responsive attitude toward community members and organizations, and to cultivate the enthusiasm and positivity necessary to constructively work through adversity and conflict. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Fluency and/or translating/interpreting skills in one of the top languages of North Central Mass, including Spanish, Portuguese, Hmong, or American Sign Language are pluses.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Some weekend and evening availability required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle. Must have the physical and technological ability to work remotely and schedule/attend both remote and in person meetings throughout the North Central region.
