Summary of Position

Develop, maintain and continuously enhance a comprehensive health promotion and education program for BGCB in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital and other health related partners.  Promote and advocate preventive health practices for club members, their families and staff in BGCB communities. 

This position is based at our Main Office, 200 High Street Boston, MA and is eligible to apply for a hybrid (in-office and remote) work model.  It is a full-time position, Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm with flexibility to attend events and meetings as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Education:

  • Provide direct health education programs at all clubs for members, families or staff
  • Provide technical support and training for BGCB staff and members in an ongoing format
  • Create or identify existing accurate and timely educational handouts for various BGCB audiences: members, families, or staff

Development

  • Develop, implement and/or support existing health education programs at BGCB
  • Analyze and use BGCB annual member survey data to assist clubs in developing health program goals and objectives
  • Maintain current knowledge of health issues/concerns affecting BGCB Club communities
  • Develop and implement methods for evaluating program effectiveness

Program Management/Administration

  • Oversee the afterschool and summer meals program ensuring meal acceptability, adequate nutrition standards, and DOE compliance
  • Provide guidance and supervision for Culinary Directors at clubs
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, club members, parents and management
  • Supervision of and support for the Community Health Registered Nurse and summer camp nurses to deliver relevant, appropriate, health and safety-promoting programming throughout BGCB.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports (including quarterly and annual reports of program activities/trainings etc), attendance records and other documents as required
  • Attend individual club staff meetings on a regular basis

Partner

  • Collaborate with club staff in identifying community health placement opportunities, especially for college/university students involved in health studies
  • including exploring/vetting new health related partnerships
  • Support the use of community resources for health-related needs of club members
  • Assist the Development department with content and program design for various opportunities, including grant writing and reporting
  • Provide bi-annual reports to MGH on all health programs at BGCB.
  • Serve as BGCB Health/Wellness senior staff leader
  • Ensure that all health programs are age appropriate, culturally sensitive and use various teaching methods
  • Cultivate opportunities for presentations and partnerships with community-based organizations
  • Regular travel between clubs and to activities is required in this role.
  • Other related duties as required

Required Experience

  • Master’s degree in public health, health communication, education or related field OR an equivalent amount of community health experience is required.
  • Minimum 4-6 years direct experience developing and delivering health programs for youth; experience in out of-school time settings (after school, weekends, holidays) preferred
  • Strong commitment to the goals, mission and philosophy of BGCB
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required; ability to speak languages in addition to English a plus
  • Understand different learning needs and styles and creates educational programs that utilize a variety of modalities (e.g. computer-based learning)
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with community partners
  • Ability to effectively use local resources
  • Strong leadership qualities and an ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Personable, well organized, enthusiastic self-starter
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
  • Valid driver’s license required and regular access to a vehicle.
