Brief Summary of Position:
Witt/Kieffer is honored to announce we have launched a search for the Executive Director for The Conference of Boston Teaching Hospitals (COBTH), an independent 501 (c) 6 organization comprised of 12 Boston-area teaching hospitals. The Executive Director is responsible for developing and coordinating COBTH’s advocacy and stakeholder engagement initiatives, and the political action and communications activities supporting them. This is an opportunity for a dynamic and seasoned executive to set the strategic direction and vision, while ensuring COBTH’s effective operation.
In the face of today’s highly competitive healthcare environment, COBTH members recognize the importance of collaborating in a number of common areas. COBTH focuses on bringing the members together to maximize the Boston-area teaching hospitals’ visibility on issues that are fundamental to their missions of teaching, research, and clinical care. COBTH educates opinion leaders and the public about the contributions of its members to the Boston area’s health and economy. Working together with business organizations, COBTH also advocates for policies favorable to academic medicine and the economy of the Commonwealth. COBTH is equally committed to addressing the public health needs of the City of Boston through cooperative efforts with government, Boston’s community health centers, and other community-based and statewide advocacy organizations. COBTH also works in partnership with the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) on statewide issues and with the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) on federal issues.
The Executive Director will establish effective relationships with the area teaching hospitals, State Legislators and staff, the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation and staff, Boston area community health centers, City of Boston, foundations, grant makers, and Massachusetts Hospital Association. She/he must develop a clear, strategic agenda and shared identity that members understand. The E.D. must also establish metrics and share measures across COBTH to highlight progress on work plan. The role requires a highly proactive and driven leader, personally develop a structure that supports the agenda and work plan. The Executive Director will focus on representing the membership and being attuned to every member, both in terms of their individual needs and the collective advocacy and public health priorities. This executive will be seen as the voice and face of COBTH across all constituencies.
The ideal candidate will possess 10 years’ experience in either the legislative, regulatory, healthcare, trade association, or community organization environment. Expertise in healthcare policy/programmatic issues impacting academic medical centers, hospitals, health systems, and community health centers is essential. She/he must possess excellent persuasive and interpersonal skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a positive, collaborative approach.
