Title: Bacteriologist I

Brief Summary of Position:
This position works as part of a team to perform molecular diagnostic assays to detect the presence of biological agents and other infectious diseases in environmental samples. Testing is fast-paced and requires that incoming specimens are recorded, processed, and triaged appropriately while maintaining chain-of-custody associated with the specimens. Staff are trained to work in both biosafety level 2 and 3 environments and may cross-train to provide surge testing for other laboratories. The position is required to perform various duties including quality control, proficiency testing, equipment maintenance, disposal of biohazardous waste, and maintenance of collection apparatus. The work schedule is flexible including weekends to ensure laboratory staff coverage for 24/7/365 operations. May provide laboratory support for field responses and investigations as assigned by the supervisor.
- Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or paraprofessional experience in bacteriology, biology or biochemistry work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in bacteriology, biology, chemistry or biochemistry may be substituted for the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
