Brief Summary of Position:

Job Objective: Reporting to the Manager of Residential Programs, the Residential Coordinator supervises and supports Residential staff who provide services and support for HIV+ persons living in scattered site programs in the Boston area.


  • BA or equivalent and two years human services and/or case management experience.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Case management and residential programming experience preferred.
  • Commitment to harm reduction philosophy, the housing first services modality and/or experience delivering low-threshold, easily accessible services.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment with issues that include HIV/AIDS, homelessness, active substance use, poverty, and mental health.
  • Self-directed, motivated and flexible with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the confidential nature of resident’s personal information regarding HIV/AIDS and the need for strong boundaries.
  • Bi-lingual in Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide on-going training to a team of residential advocates at various AAC locations to ensure clients receive comprehensive screening, referral and assistance with all levels of case management, housing search, residential program move in/outs, and eviction prevention in conjunction with the HIV/AIDS Standards of Care.
  • Assess staff skills in collaboration with the Residential Manager and provide staff trainings focusing on improving access to care, increasing stable housing arrangements, and reducing the risk of homelessness.
  • Coordinate program budgets and residential reporting requirements, including submitting proposals and program reports to area funders. Manage program operations of assigned residential programs. Maintain up-to-date client records including assessments, individual service plans, progress notes, clinical indicators, all other required paperwork, and electronic submission of client data in AAC’s electronic database, ETO.
  • Coordinate the intake and move-in process for incoming residents, including obtaining all required documentation, scheduling move-in dates, and assisting with move-in logistics. Communicate waitlist activity to Client Services staff, outside providers, and clients to ensure that openings are filled in a timely manner and that clients receive the support needed.
  • Ensure all services are provided within the harm reduction & housing first frameworks and are easily accessible to clients in need of services, particularly those who are most impacted by social economic inequality. Identify and research available apartment listings in the Greater Boston and North Shore areas that fall within program funding requirements and build working relationships with property owners that enhance the housing programs.
  • Provide acuity based case management and housing search services for clients enrolled in the Residential Programs, as needed. Conduct assessments and reassessments and develop client centered service plans based on assessed needs.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum for client groups, including adult and youth groups, on and off site. Support group facilitators in providing high quality information and services to group attendees.
  • Work as part of an integrated team to assist clients in accessing services offered by all AAC programs. Facilitate access to resources that will assist clients in optimizing health outcomes and moving towards self-sufficiency, including medical, housing, financial, mental health, substance use, sexual health, legal, vocational, and educational services. Facilitate case coordination, including communicating with other providers to improve access to care and reduce duplication of services. Act as a liaison between residents and landlords, property management companies, and local housing authorities.
  • Provide assistance to clients during all phases of subsidized housing application process. Assist clients and staff with all aspects of eviction prevention and accompany clients to court and appeal hearings as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with area landlords and property management companies to facilitate effective communication and collaboration and to maximize housing options for clients. Identify and research available apartment listings in the Great Boston areas that fall within program funding requirements. Build relationships with property managers and owners that enhance housing programs.
  • Develop a wide-ranging resource network for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Greater Boston area. Provide coordination, linkage, and follow-up with existing service programs to maximize access to services, especially for those that are experiencing homelessness, substance users, immigrants, and/or people of color.
  • Alternate work sites with the Residential Manager and other Residential Coordinator including Green St. and Amory; provide support to program staff at both sites and at the project-based residential sites.
  • Attend and participate in program meetings department meetings, management meetings, all staff meetings, all staff training, funder and stakeholder meetings and other meetings/trainings as required.
  • Enforce agency’s policies and procedures. Ensure proper documentation procedures are maintained including submission of reports, data collection and overall maintenance of client records and other required paperwork.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
