On Tuesday December 6th, 2017, Governor Charlie Baker announced $98 million in state budget cuts. About $10M was cut from the Department for Public Health (DPH). DPH Cuts included funding for Community Health Centers, Substance Use Prevention, AIDS/HIV prevention and Disease Prevention. Cuts were also made to substance use prevention programs under the Department of Education.
We are disappointed that the Governor chose to make these unnecessary cuts to the budget and disappointed that he chose to sacrifice prevention and substance use treatment programs while the state is still facing a crisis. MPHA will continue working along with our partners to advocate for needed funding for public health programs and push for restoration of cut funds.
