For the second year, MPHA collaborated with the Western MA Health Equity Network (WMHEN) to host a Policy Assembly on May 24 to discuss and prioritize state-level policy issues for which to advocate to advance health equity in Western Massachusetts. Nearly 50 people from Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire Counties met in Springfield, MA, to learn more about and discuss a wide variety of policy issues that impact health equity. Prior to the Assembly, 100 people participated in an online poll to help narrow the number of issues for discussion. Look for a summary of the priorities and next steps in our July newsletter. The University of Massachusetts-Amherst’s School of Public Health & Health Science sponsors the WHMEN, which is guided by a Steering Committee that includes MPHA Board Members Jessica Collins and Soloe Dennis; Policy Committee Members Catherine Ratté and Risa Silverman; and MPHA Field Director Andrea Freeman.
