Brief Summary of Position:

The CDC is the nation’s premier health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agency. CDC protects the American people from public health threats, researching emerging diseases, or mobilizing public health programs with its domestic and international partners. This announcement will be used to fill positions in support of the Zika hiring initiative.  Positions may be filled as temporary, term or permanent with a full-time work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in CDC’s Joint Information Center (JIC) in areas such as emergency risk communication content development, partnership outreach, communication surveillance (media monitoring and analysis), emergency clearance, communication tasks tracking, or leading other JIC teams
  • Develop and implement communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies for the general public and other audiences, including innovative demonstration projects
  • Apply social marketing practices and health communication theories to enhance program effectiveness
  • Review and edit materials developed by staff to ensure program objectives are being met
  • Provide consultation, technical assistance, and training on program and project implementation to internal and external groups
  • Work with health communication specialists to ensure health communication activities are based on theory and use accepted principles, methods and practices
  • Gather data and develop products such as fact sheets, program briefings, questions and answers, program summaries, web pages, and program-in-briefs
  • Plan, apply, and evaluate various communication science and marketing techniques to achieve optimal program results and promote positive health outcomes

Qualifications:

GS-11:  Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience applying social media marketing practices to mass communication.

OR

Have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, of LL.M., if related from an accredited college or university.

OR

Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

GS-12:  Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience planning health communication and marketing campaigns designed to impact public health programs.

GS-13:  Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing technical assistance and consultation on health communication and marketing campaigns.

GS-14:  Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience managing and evaluating public health communication and marketing programs and campaigns.
