Years of Organizing Pays off! Bill to Create Office of Health Equity Passes House and Senate

On March 3, 2016 the Senate passed S2143, a bill to create an Office of Health Equity which would focus on strategies to eliminate health disparities in the Commonwealth. MPHA and our partners at Disparities Action Network have long championed this bill, which passed the House earlier this year and is now headed to Conference Committee. The Office of Health Equity created by S2143 will be located within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS). The Office of Health Equity will create an annual plan for the elimination of health disparities in Massachusetts and will work with other state agencies, including agencies dealing with housing, transportation, public safety and labor, on disparities reduction initiatives to address the social factors that influence health inequities.
