On Friday, November 13, 2015, MPHA held it’s 2015 Annual Meeting and Expo at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. The event, “Dismantling Inequity: Leaders Building Power and Organizing for Justice”, highlighted action being taken at the state level and in localities across Massachusetts to advance health equity and address the social determinants of health. Dr. Lauren Smith, Managing Director of the U.S. Health Focus at FSG and Prabal Chakrabarti, Vice President of Community Development Regional and Community Outreach at the Federal Reserve participated in a keynote panel discussion moderated by Rachel Kaprielian, Region One Director of the US Department of Health and Human Services. There was also a panel discussion with representatives from Berkshire Interfaith Organizing, Healing Racism Institute of Pioneer Valley, Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, Neighbor to Neighbor and Youth Jobs Coalition discussing their work on the ground advancing equity and addressing the social determinants of health.
Participants of the 2015 Annual Meeting, including public health professionals, students, and advocates, stated that the event was inspiring and highly informative.
