Of eight communities presented with a Culture of Health Prize by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, two are in Massachusetts. Everett and Lawrence were both awarded with the Culture of Health Prize for working to “ensure that everyone in their community has the opportunity to live a longer, healthier and more productive life”.
Everett was awarded for its work to eliminate racial profiling and for the work that the One Everett coalition has done to expand access to good jobs with living wages for residents of this largely immigrant community. Lawrence was awarded for turning around its troubled school system and for increasing the availability of affordable housing and for restoring bike paths and parks.
