Primary Responsibilities

Manage Massachusetts healthy food financing campaign (60%):

  • Coordinate statewide Healthy Food Financing Working Group to engage coalition partners and develop campaign strategy
  • Coordinate logistics of working group meetings, campaign events, and other campaign activities
  • Create educational materials for the campaign
  • Work with local partners statewide to collect, format, and distribute stories of local needs, successes, and challenges related to healthy food access
  • Develop relationships with coalition partners statewide and provide 1:1 support to engage them in campaign activities
  • Coordinate outreach to new partners, including grasstops and statewide leaders
  • Support engagement of Massachusetts policymakers, including state legislators and Administration officials

Primary Responsibilities (cnt’d)

Expand organized constituency for public health (30%):

  • Work with Field Director to implement MPHA’s approach to building and supporting regional networks of individuals and organizations to advance MPHA’s policy priorities, which include violence prevention, transportation, housing, and other social determinants of health
  • Build relationships with existing local partners and establish relationships with new potential ones
  • Work with Field Director and/or Policy Director to develop and provide advocacy trainings, capacity-building, technical assistance, and 1:1 support to partners and member organizations related to campaign goals and strategies
  • Provide staffing support and represent MPHA on statewide campaigns, working groups, and coalitions
  • Draft communications and training materials

Other responsibilities as assigned (10%):

  • Help organize conferences, meetings, other events
  • Contribute to communications activities such as drafting newsletter articles and social media content
  • Drafting materials including fact sheets, testimony, letters, alerts, and press releases
  • Member recruitment, fundraising, and other organizational responsibilities shared byMPHA staff
  • Other tasks and projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in coalition organizing and management, working with partners from diverse backgrounds and sectors
  • Experience in community organizing, facilitative leadership, training, or capacity-building
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking; fluency in Spanish or other language preferred
  • Experience with policy advocacy campaigns
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, able to work well under pressure as part of a fast-moving team
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and improving the social determinants of health
  • Valid US driver’s license and consistent access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to occasionally “be on the road” for an extended workday through the state
  • Ability to occasionally participate in early morning, evening, or weekend events
  • Preferred
    • Familiarity with the Massachusetts political and legislative process
    • Familiarity with food policy
    • Communications and media experience, including social media

The Coalition and Field Organizer will report to the Director of Policy & Communications and the Field Director.
