AARP Seeks Volunteer State President (Deadline: 9/30)

Description of position:

AARP Massachusetts is accepting applications for State President, AARP’s top volunteer position in the Commonwealth. A visionary leader – with a passion for issues that impact people as they age – is needed to motivate and engage volunteers and people 50+ and their families.
The AARP Massachusetts state president serves as chair of the Executive Council, an all-volunteer panel made up of team leaders from across the state; partners with the state director, and works with staff and volunteers to help achieve AARP’s vision, mission and strategic priorities within Massachusetts; acts as the principal volunteer spokesperson for AARP in Massachusetts; and builds networks and partnerships with organizations and key Massachusetts decision-makers.
The candidate should have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, public policy and planning experience, a talent for networking, and the ability to coach, mentor, motivate and inspire others. Previous volunteer leadership experience is required, either with AARP or other organizations.

The State President is selected for a two-year term, with two reappointments allowed, for a potential total of six years’ service. Time commitment is flexible and varies. Some travel is required, both intrastate and interstate. Reimbursements for expenses are available.
