Brief Summary Position:

American Lung Association of the Northeast seeks a Manager, Medical & Scientific Branch working out of our Waltham, MA. office.  Position will sustain and grow a vibrant Medical and Scientific Branch (MSB) with health professional members throughout the Northeast engaged in work supporting the organization’s mission. Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Pulmonary Section committees (volunteers) and provide an administrative service for sections (including scheduling regular meetings, disseminating meeting papers, taking and writing minutes) to ensure smooth operation of the sections.  Employ creative strategies for MSB member recruitment and continued engagement, manage member administration, update MSB WebPages and write monthly member e-news. Provide support for the research grants program in collaboration with the American Lung Association National office.  Expertly coordinate all Medical & Scientific Branch programs including a series of annual CME conferences throughout the Northeast.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Health education background or a strong interest in public health/health education
  • Minimum 5 years of project managing conferences
  • Experience in the health related non-profit sector
  • CMP designation or equivalent meetings management qualification
  • Experience with committee coordination and support
  • Experience of working with volunteer health professional committees
  • Experience of accreditation processes for continuing education (CE)
  • Membership management experience including member recruitment
  • Experience with organizing academic, medical or scientific events
  • Budget management experience

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented, analytical and a tactical implementer with a passion for accuracy
  • Good IT ability including excellent MS Office and internet applications
  • Calm and flexible multitasker
  • Creative self-starter and problem solver with a collaborative approach
  • Grant writing and meeting facilitation skills
