During the first full week of April each year, the American Public Health Association (APHA) brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health.
MPHA is excited to participate in National Public Health Week this year from April 7-11. This year’s theme “Public Health: Start Here” is broken down into mini-themes for each day of the week. We’ll be celebrating the daily themes with some exciting activities:
- Tuesday, April 8th: Fund Public Health! Call-In Day of Action: On the eve of the House budget debate, join hundreds of public health supporters on April 8th to contact your state representative and urge him or her to support public health in the state budget. Make sure you put aside a few minutes during your day to reach out by phone, email, and social media to your Representative. We’ll provide additional details and support – stay tuned. - Wednesday, April 9th: Twitter Chat: MPHA and many of our partners will be active participants in APHA’s fourth annual Twitter chat on April 9th at 2:00pm! We’re looking forward to a meaningful conversation with public health advocates across the country, as well as APHA’s surprise celebrity guests (TBA)! We’ll be sharing information about how the discussion impacts Massachusetts and how you can get involved to support public health here at home. Use #NPHWchat and #MAPublicHealth to join the conversation!
- Wednesday, April 9th: MPHA Day at Fenway: MPHA is looking forward to celebrating public health by cheering on the Red Sox on April 9th with 600 of our closest friends who purchased tickets for this special event! Unfortunately, tickets are now sold out.
- All week long! NPHW events across Massachusetts: Tune in to MPHA’s Facebook and Twitter during the week to find out about NPHW activities happening in a town near you! If your organization is hosting an event, there is still time to register it online as an official NPHW event so we can help you spread the word!
