MPHA Leaders Publish Commentary on Population Health in Payment Reform

Two MPHA Board members, Karen Hacker, MD, MPH and Deborah Klein Walker, EdD, recently published commentary in the American Journal of Public Health about integrating population health into reform of the health care payment system.  Their commentary, Achieving Population Health in Accountable Care Organizations,” discusses how providing for a broader definition of community health could improve relationships between clinical delivery and public health system, as well as improve health outcomes for communities.  Hacker and Klein Walker examine what resources and strategies can overcome obstacles to achieve population health goals, and provide recommendations for linking affordable care organizations (ACOs) with the public health system in order to improve health for patients and their communities.
